WinPE and Drive numbering using Diskpart on Dell PowerEdge systems
I'm setting up a test environment for ADS 1.1. When using WinPE 2005 for my boot disk repository and the diskpart utility, some of my Dell servers start their Drive numbering at #1 while others start their enumeration at #0. This drive numbering issue seems to break down by Dell model.
For example, Dell 2850 with a PERC 4\Di or a Dell 4\DC will report their first hard drive using diskpart at drive #1. A Dell 2650 with at PERC 3\Di will report their first hard drive using diskpart at drive #0. (you results my vary - speaking only within my test environment)
I'm assuming this is important because ADS uses commands within the Task Sequencer that has hard-coded hard drive number information within its commands to partition, capture and deploy to the hard drive.
Has anyone seen similar results and can someone explain how diskpart handles its drive enumeration (controller make\model, BIOS, etc.?).
Thank you and advance for your reply.
