WinXP Perc/5i drivers support raid 5?
Hi folks: I was looking to backup the system partition of my 2950 server by using my BartPE disk and the disk imaging software on it (I like the idea having a disk image of the system partition taken when the o/s is not running, since I'm old fashioned and believe it's the best kind of backup to have). The BartPE disk is WinXP Pro SP2 based. I wanted to find out if anyone knows if the perc/5i drivers for WinXP support RAID 5. I'm afraid that there is a lot of confusion about what XP does and does not support regarding RAID 5. I've read the hack procedure on tomshardware.com to make XP recognize RAID 5, but I'm thinking that might only be necessary if software RAID is desired, and that if it's hardware based, the driver and controller hide the RAID condition from the rest of the o/s. It seems that way on the Win2K3 server o/s, as the built-in disk management snap in shows the drive as a single basic drive rather than a RAID 5 drive. Has anyone tried accessing the raid array on a perc/5i controller from WinXP?
