disk speed and capacity question

Hi all,

i have a question about a disk replacement.

I have and old poweredge R720 (whithout warranty)with 900 GB sas 6Gb/s disks, one disk is failed.

Now i have to purchase a new disk to replace the failed ones, but in the store the only disk that is similar is the 1,8 TB SAS 12 Gb/s.

The question is simple:

can i buy this disk and replace the failed ones are this disk compatible with my raid controller ?

Thanks.

Hello

If the disk will function on the controller then you can rebuild it into the virtual disk. A replacement disk needs to be the same type(SAS, SATA, SSD) and of equal or greater size than the smallest disk in the virtual disk. Disks within a virtual disk can operate at different rotational and transfer speeds.

So, from a theoretical standpoint yes, it will work. If it is not a certified disk that we have validated for the server then it may not work.

Thanks
