110T - errors

I have a pv-110t-dlt-vs80 that has been chugging along merrily for about 3 years.  Lately there are 2 things that are reoccuring enough that I want to spend the time to resolve them.

 

1)  I have been having generic errors on the tapes like I/O error and cyclic redundancy check so I have bought all new tapes.  The very first time I used a new tape I got a cyclic redundancy check.  When I run the media set report it shows 79 soft errors and 1 hard error - the first time the tape has been used!  I run the tape cleaner but is there some other maint that I should perform?

 

2)  The system is sporatic on when it sends an operator message email.  Sometime it does when it completes successfully but it does not email when it fails - but sometimes it does.  Any ideas?
