You should update your BIOS (this is standard maintenance), but the PowerEdge 2950 will NOT take 16GB DIMM's. 8 x 8 = 64 is the max for the 2950 II and III. The PowerEdge 2950 I (not labeled with II or III) only supports 8 x 4 = 32GB.
