BOSS S1 card with M2 ssd

Negative. The BOSS Cards are SATA m.2 only. 

Can you check in iDRAC Storage page and see whether BOSS controller and drives are visible on iDRAC? You can also ensure BOSS controller and drives are seated properly and update BOSS FW to latest if it is not latest. 

Hi to all. I have new R740xd with Boss-S1 controller card with 2 M.2 Sticks and I want to install server 2022 onto but in the Device settings Boss-s1 is not listed.

I contacted DELL support and awaiting for assitance.I am wondering has any of zou had similar issue?

I find it best to physically connect a monitor/keyboard and mouse into the server and enter bios settings. IDRAC can be a bit weird.

I have tried about 6 different nvme and 4 different sata m.2 drives. None of them worked. Only the two above are supported. I currently have 2x Micro 5100 drives installed and they work as advertised

I just got 3 BOSS-S1 cards today. I am waiting on Dell drives to arrive. I had previously purchased Kingston A400 SATA M.2 drives but read this post and others and decided it wasn’t going to work. So I ordered the Dell. But being impatient as I am, I decided to pop them in while I wait.

I created the RAID 1 and installed the Hyper-V Server host. All seems to be well. As the BOSS will only house the HV host, are there pitfalls I can’t see that I should be aware of? We’re you able to get this far? Or did you have problems further down the road?

What BOSS card is supported on the R730xd?

The BOSS card is not validated for the R730xd (a 13gen server)

BOSS (Boot optimized server storage) daughter card enables the booting of 14th generation servers to a complete version of OS.

I just purchased a Dell T150 EMC server and bought a Boss Card.

I just learned from your forums that you cannot use any M.2 drives except the listed ones listed below.

Micron 5100 Pro and Intel DC S3520

Do you have to use both slots?

Also, I purchased an x4PCi Express to M.2 PCI2 SSD adapter from StarTech.com. Can I use this to boot the server? Or is the Boss Card the only device you can use to boot the server?

Yes you can use only one slot. And FWIW, I tried some Kingston A400 and they seemed to work just fine. However I decided that since these were production servers for our business, I opted to replace them with some like new server pull Dell Micron drives from a seller on eBay. I only boot to Hyper-V. So the Kingston would have probably worked fine. 

As far as your other question, I can’t answer that one. My gut says your would be able to boot from it. But someone else will give you a definitive answer. 

Thanks for the response. I really appreciate it. What is the exact Kingston A400 drive you got to work? Serial Number, size, speed. etc. I tried the Samsung M.2 drive, and the Boss Card would not recognize it in the BIOS. Also, if I have one M.2 drive, which slot should I use?

Finally, the Micron drive part number I got that would work is
MTFDDAV480TCB-1AR1ZABYY. Is this correct? I wanted to verify the number before I purchase the drive. 

Have you notice alert with 3rd party M.2? such as: The Write Endurance of Solid state drive (SSD) Disk 0 on AHCI Controller in slot 2 is less than the threshold value of 'Remaining Write Rated Endurance'

or

Remaining Rated Write Endurance: 0%

this  may happen with 3rd party M2 drives on BOSS-S1 on Dell servers.

Have got same setup as you - T150 and Boss-S1.

As per my other post, can confirm that the Boss-S1 supports other brand and size drives, than what is listed in the manual.

Have 2 x Silicon Power A55 - 1TB drives running on it in RAID 1.   

Only M.2 Sata drive I could find in stock where I am and out of the SP, Kingston A400 and WD Green M.2 Sata drives that were available and in stock. the SP have faster read and write speeds.
