Broadcom netXtreme Gigabit Ethernet

We installed Windows XP on a PowerEdge 1750 and things were working pretty much ok until this machine could not connect to the network anymore although it used to before.

Both of the connection icons show that the cables are plugged. However we changed the network cables but the machine still did not respond to the network.

Any known solution for this case especially that the machine worked properly for some few days before it stopped responding to the network?

I would have reinstalled everything on the machine if I did not have already a software installed on it that would need the provider to come and reinstall it again...

Network driver used is Broadcom netXtreme Gigabit Ethernet.

When you say "machine could not connect to the network", could you be more specific? Does it not get an IP? Are you assigning a static IP or is it getting one from a DHCP server? What kind of switch/router is it connecting to? Since it shows that the cable is "plugged", have you tried running IPCONFIG /ALL to see if IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway are configured properly? If you have set it to DHCP and it's not successfully getting an IP from the DHCP server, please try setting a static IP address just to test.

I also want to add that there are no 'valided' drivers for Windows XP for the Broadcom NetXtreme NIC since PowerEdge 1750 is not designed to run Windows XP. However, in most cases, XP should run fine.

I have had a similar problem.  The symptoms are the NIC cards are unable to obtain an IP address from DHCP.  The solution that I used, although not perfect is this:  1)  Unplug network cables.  2)  Boot up server.  3)  Logon to machine and disable both NIC cards.  4)  Plug in network cables.  5)  Re-Enable both NIC cards, a valid address from DHCP should be obtained within a minute.  I am mystified why this is necessary.
