DELL T40 - RAID controller and network card-quad port

Hi,
I have a DELL T40 server and I would like to purchase a RAID controller to create a RAID10 from four disks.

I would like to buy a RAID controller on ebay. I live in UK.

I was thinking about the PERC H310 or PERC H710.
Does this controller need to be in IT mode?
I've seen a few controllers in this mode but don't know what that means.

It is also looking for a server with a four-port network card.
Is it best to buy something from DELL on ebay? Do I have to look at any specific parameters?

Hi,

As I read on the web The IT mode is an unsupported firmware that allow you to access disk without RAID configuration. This usage is not recommanded and not match with your expectation.

For both H310 and H710 "H" mean hardware RAID so operating system is not able to see HDD direclty but through a RAID configuration (at least RAID0 usage for one disk)

Difference for H310 and H710 is the performance level (data rate) where H710 is the best.

You can purchase and server through ebay but you don't have any visibily of a potential hidden problem and no warranty. If you want to purchase a second hand server, consider to contact a broker or reseller that could apply a minimum warranty (like 3 month). they will also probably give you pre-sale advice.

I remain at your disposal.
