Dell R710 PCIE X16 Riser Board Frame

I have an R710 with a x8 Riser Board. I am hoping to replace that with an x16 board.

I found some online that are sold without the frame.

Is it safe to use the board with out the frame? Can the frame of the x8 be removed and used on the x16?

Hello.

Depends on the type of riser card you are referring to. However, we recommend replacement of the entire raiser card and not frames. See page 119 of the Users'Manual for additional information: http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_poweredge/poweredge-r710_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf
