Dell T610 memory mismatch

Hi there

I am having problems installing new ECC RAMs. I have 2 x 16GB and 2x 8GB. Could anyone shed a bit of light as to how to populate the slots.

Thanks

Hello

That is not enough information to help you. How many CPUs, and what are the specifications of the memory? Are these the only DIMMs in the server or is  there existing memory? If there is existing memory then you will need to provide specifications of that memory.

If you have two CPUs then there is not a valid configuration with those DIMMs. If you have a single CPU then you may be able to populate the 2x16 in slots 1,2 and the 2x8 in 4,5. Many factors go into memory population, so I can't be certain any population will work given the information you have provided.

Thanks

Hi Daniel

Thanks for the swift response.

Existing:

2 CPUs (2.8 GHz Quad-core),

2 x Hynix 16GB DIMM PC3-10600R DDR3L 1600 MHz / 1333 MHz  ECC RDIMM RAM REG DDR3

at A1 and B1 positions.

I need to add the following RAMs:

2 x Hynix 8GB DIMM PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)

2 x Hynix 4GB DIMM PC3L-10600 (DDR3-1333)

When I do so, I keep getting "mismatch or configuration" errors at start up. I do not know which slot has the priority ( A1 A2 ...A6  or B1 B2 ...B6).

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Russ

That is not enough information. If you are not able to provide the full specifications then you should provide part or model numbers of the memory.

The A and B lanes must match. Also, memory must be installed in matched pairs at a minimum, so when you are populating a dual CPU system you should be installing memory in sets of 4 at a minimum. You don't have enough memory for a valid population. The only population you can have is a single DIMM on each lanes slot 1. That is a minimal configuration that is designed for testing. Single DIMM configurations will work, but they are not intended for production environments.

Thanks

There is no valid configuration to mix that memory together.

We impose population restrictions on memory to avoid potential issues. Beginning with our 12th generation servers we added a feature called Flexible Memory. The flexible memory feature was us removing most of the population restrictions. This allows you to install memory into any configuration the memory controller will allow.

We added the flexible memory feature to some 11th generation servers via BIOS updates. I would suggest updating your BIOS to the latest revision to see if it will allow the memory to function. There is no viable population I can think of with those DIMMs. It would be best if you just bought 2 more of the 16GB DIMMs and populated them in slot 2 on both lanes.

Thanks

Hi there

Thanks for the response. Here are the specifications:

A)  2 x Hynix 8GB:

8GB 2R x 4 PC3-10600R -9 -10 -E1

HMT31GR7BFR4C - H9 D7 AB   1105

B) 2 x Hynix 4GB:

4GB 2R x 8 PC3L- 10600R-9-10-B0

HMT351R7BFR8A-H9 T7 AB

There is nothing else on the sticks.

I need to add these to already 2x16gb (32GB in total) existing in the server.

Thanks
