Does the PowerEdge 2850 BIOS Support Virtualization Technology?
Sorry to necro this thread, but it speaks directly to my issue. I too have a 2850 in which I've invested a lot of time and money and would like to solve this problem (no VT) with this device. I note that the Intel Xeon 7120m dual core processor is a Socket 604 processor with an 800Mhz FSB, meaning it's at least plug-compatible. It supports VT-x. The question is, if I dropped the 7120m into my 2850, could I get a BIOS that would allow enabling the VT technology?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Glashoppah,
The 2850 BIOS doesn't support VT. Even with the server running a VT supported processor, the limitation is that the servers BIOS doesn't. The 9th generation Dell servers are the ones that started supporting Virtualization Technologies.

It might be compatible with the socket, but it is not listed on ark.intel.com as compatible with the chipset found in the 2850 (let alone with the Dell BIOS), so the processor likely wouldn't work anyway. It was often the case with desktops whose BIOS did not support enabling VT, that VT was already enabled with a supporting processor upgrade. Not sure if that would be the case on this system - the BIOS/chipset may simple not be capable of communicating the necessary code for VT to work.
