Issues Upgrading PE1950 with 2 Intel Xeon 5355

Hello Support Community, I want to search your help regarding the upgrading of my second PE1950 that I use with ESXi employing 2 Intel Xeon 5355, because, even I  updated today the BIOS to 2.7.0 and  BMC to v.2.37, A14, the Server didnt show any video of the booting process.

The processors are OK because I tested them in my first PE1950  without problems.

I followed the guide  http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_poweredge/poweredge-1950_setup%20guide2_en-us.pdf and the thread: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/956/t/18672101 . In the last one the only thing that I missed was the PERC upgrade , ¿Could It be this item the cause that the issue persists?

Thank you and Best Regards.

It looks like the revision of the motherboard that is in that system does not support that processor. The 5150 is the fastest validated processor.

There are three revisions of the 1950. If your first 1950 is a II or III and the second one is a I, then the 5300 would work in the first but not the second.

Good Morning Josh, thanks for your help

I see int the component  list that the Motherboard is for XEON WOODCREST, 5130, and the WOODCREST familiy has up to 5160:  ¿Could I use the 5160 as well in the second PE1950 ?

Because, with this information  the solution is buy 4 XEON WOODCREST (5150, 5160 or 5130), two for the 1st PE1950 (where both pairs of  X5355 worked), and two for the 2nd PE1950. I need that the two servers have the same CPUs for full VMotion Support (same vendor, same CPU family, same features), and I found this offers in ebay:

5150: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-Of-4-Xeon-5150-2-66-GHz-4M-1333-LGA-771-DC-CPU-SLAGA-/121498739078?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c49e3a186

5160: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-OF-4-2-PAIRS-INTEL-XEON-5160-DUAL-CORE-PROCESSOR-4MB-3-00-GHz-1333MHz-/281560657721?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item418e52af39

¿Do you think that both PE1950 support this processors? (instead of changing the motherboard of the 2nd PE1950)

Regards

Hello theflash1932, for the 2nd PE1950 (where the X5355 didnt work), the component list dont specifiy what generation is, but in the 1st  PE1950 (where the X5355 worked) the component list specifies G1. Visually both seem identical, and dont have any physical mark that indicates the Generation.

Regards.

G1 in the component list does not mean it is revision I. The I cannot take a 5300-series processor. The indicator is usually on the upper-left corner of the front of the chassis, on the rackmount dog-ear. If it does not have the mark, you can also check in OMSA, System, Main, Information tab, under the System Revision field.
