Logging server hardware diagnostics test results to file
I'm trying to save the results of a full hardware test run, using the F10 USC/UEFI Hardware Diagnostics "Custom Test" option, to a USB stick. The diagnostic Options frame in the Custom Test window allows a log file name and path to be specified, although it will only accept "G:\" as the drive letter (whether or not a USB stick or other storage device is connected) - if you don't specify the drive letter, it automatically adds it. However, it then does not save, or indeed create, the log file. Can anyone suggest what I might have missed, or does this feature simply not work?
My server is an R210. The diagnostics build version is V5148.3 (as shown in the bottom left corner of the Main Menu). The BIOS version is 1.5.2. The UEFI version is 2.1.
The stick I am trying to use is 2GB, formatted in FAT.

Hello Tim
Sorry about not responding sooner. I checked and it is not possible to access a command line via the USC to copy the file. I checked with one of our escalation groups to find out why we have the option to save the file if it is just lost to a ram drive, and the answer I received is that it is a legacy option that was designed for floppy drives. It is not intended to function for saving files to anything other than a floppy or the RAM drive, and it is unknown why the option to save a log file has not been removed.
Thanks

Hello tcbaldwin
I don't think it allows you to save the file anywhere except the ram drive created to run the diagnostics; which sounds like the G drive. Once the diagnostic completes, exit to a command prompt and use dir to browse the directory structure and files of the G drive. You should see the log text file in the root of G. Once you are in the same directory of the file then you should be able to use the copy command to copy it to your thumb drive. For example:
g:\>copy logfile.txt f:
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks

Thanks for the swift response, Daniel
The G: drive is indeed the RAM drive - I saw the RAM drive setup go by during the USC initialisation, and it is assigned the driver letter G.
However, I can't find any way to access a console within the diagnostics utility - it doesn't appear to have one, so I can't save the test result file to any non-volatile medium. I should point out that I'm running the USC diagnostics invoked directly from the BIOS - I have no OS loaded at all.
