M910 memory slot preference

What memory slot in an m910 is A1 ?

The diagram shows A1 as having BLUE levers

BUT In the M910 user guide, it states:

  • Memory modules must be installed in pairs, beginning with the first two sockets in each set of memory modules.  These sockets are marked by white retention levers.

Hello.

What memory slot in an m910 is A1 ?

The diagram shows A1 as having BLUE levers

The corresponding slots with levers on the given channels is as follows:

A1 &A2 - White

A3 &A4 - Black

A5 &A6 - Yellow

A7 &A8 - Blue. The same applies to B, C &D slots. See table below.

Memory modules must be installed in pairs, beginning with the first two sockets in each set of memory modules.  These sockets are marked by white retention levers.

Memory across  the channels have to be balanced and hence identical. Once slot A1 is populated, then slot A2 has to be populated as well, with an identical memory DIMM to maintain the balance. In the same way, memory DIMM on slot A3  has to matches one on slot A4 and so forth. Depending on the number of processors, the same applies to B, C and D slots. In essence, memory is being populated in pairs. This is the meaning of the above statement when populating memory.

I can not say for sure because I haven't been able to figure out the enumeration used on the slots labels relative to the system board. The diagram I posted is easier to understand.
