Memory upgrade on Dell R710

Hi Guys,

I have to replace a memory module on one of my remote Dell R710 server's and that thing is that I will be working with an on-site technician who aren't really comfortable with servers and the hardware part of it.

I want to replace the memory module in Slot  DIMM_A5 since it is faulty, now what  I want to know is that since the R710 servers have 18 slots and two channels (A & B)..  is it easy to identify which is the A5 slot? which has to be replaced...

What I am asking essentialy is that will it be readable for the on-site guy to see and spot the DIMM_A5 slot on which the memory has to be replaced?

Thanks

A

The processor and memory slots should identified on the board, including which bank is which - bank A for processor 1 and bank B for processor 2, each bank labeled from 1-9 (A1-A9, B1-B9).

Page 180 shows exactly how the memory slots are laid out:

Also there is a system diagram on the inside of the lid showing the layout of the memory slots.
