Mixing 2Rx4 and 2Rx8 DDRIII Memory DIMMs

I  really comes down to the system specific. Most of our servers support mixing different ranked dimms, but have different ways of handling the configuration. For example, the R520 requires that the DIMMs should be installed with largest rank count to smallest. Whereas the R410 needs for the larger ranked dimms to be installed in the white tabbed slots only. So it is really down to the specific server. What server are you wanting to know about specifically?

Yes, it can be mixed but it is system specific. So if you could write your PE model number that'd be helpful. I also believe only certain modes can take both of them together  ex: advanced ECC mode(just my opinion).

There is not going to be any requirement for the order of Single Rank and Dual Rank Dimms.  Yet if you choose to use Quad Rank mixed with Single or Dual Rank Dimms, the Quad Rank needs to be in the slot with the white ejection tabs (the first slot in each channel). 

Am I able to mix PC3-14900R 2x8 ECC RDIMMS with PC3-14900R 1x4 ECC RDIMMS on a Dell T620?

It has dual processors, so could I put the 2x8 on one processor and the 1x4 on the second?

If so, what specific slots do I need to put them in?
