PE 6300 and PE6350 motherboard
Are the PE6300 and PE6350 motherboard identical? I would like to replace my 6300 motherboard with the one from my 6350.
My 6300 got wet inside when a fire broke out in our building. It powers up, HD in drive cage lits up but no video out. Power supplies are ok.
So, are they identical?
Thanks,
Ferdinand

Some 6300 / 6350 motherboards are similar, some are identical.
PowerEdge 6300:
56580, System Planar, DESCHUTES (2 processor) - not interchangeable
2D662, System Planar, XEON (4 processor) - this one is probably interchangeable with the PowerEdge 6350, but I am not positive.
PowerEdge 6350:
8503D, System Planar, XEON (4 processor) - this one also is probably interchangeable with the PowerEdge 6300, but I am not positive.
6055R, System Planar, XEON (4 processor) - this one is definately interchangeable with the PowerEdge 6300.
I would recommend the latest System BIOS and ESM Firmware:
Install the ESM Firmware, then the System BIOS on the PowerEdge 6300
ESM Firmware, Multi System, A42
Filename: a42cust.exe (397 KB)
Note: Extract the files to a DOS bootable floppy disk. Boot the server to this floppy disk, and run smflsh.exe.
System BIOS, PowerEdge 6300, A13
FileName: PE6300-BIOSA13.exe [477 KB]
Thanks for using the Dell Community Forums!

I meant flash the firmware after swapping the motherboard. I have discovered the 6055R motherboard will detect which system it is installed in. I could not find any more information on the other 2 motherboards.
Thanks

The reason I want to salvage the 6300 is because of the six-RAID5 HD I had on it before.

My next question is:
How do I configure the RAID 5? My original PERC2/DC cannot be detected and I assume d that is defective also. Also, of the 6 HD, HD No.5 is not detected via SCSI. If I get a new RAID controller, is there a good chance of data recovery? considering that one HD has failed and the RAID controller has also failed and a new one needs to be reconfigured.
Thanks,
Ferdinand

IF you replace the controller with an identical model and IF the firmware is the same revision as the defective card (and there are no other hidden problems on the hard drives), you have a very good chance of recovering the data.
The configuration is stored on the hard drives, so an identical controller should be able to read the configuration with no problem.
If you replace the with a newer LSI Logic (formerly AMI) based Perc, there is still some chance the configuration will be recognised.
Thanks
