PERC H700 & 16 drives. How?

So, I have a PE R710 with a PERC H700.  If max drives supported is 16, how do I get there?  I would like to house a dozen drives in a second enclosure connected by cabling long enough to be controlled by the internal H700.  I don't want to lose the ability to run the six drives off the 710s backplane, though.  I am intending to run 12 x 12T drives in RAID6.  Thanks.

IndyJoe1977,

In order to do what you are looking at would require an additional controller, specifically the H800. The H800 would support the external connections and configuring what sounds like a JBOD setup. Unfortunately the H700 doesn't support running anything external.

the H700 users manuals here, cover this topic.

best is to read that first and use the version with the rear SFF jacks.

my guess is you want to run and external drive cage.

that is H800,  card, not H700

The H800 has the SFF connectors on the rear J-bracket to the rear. for external usage.

H800 is the answer,

the manual covers H700 and h800 in one PDF

OK, thanks, guys.  I had hoped to be able to run the six internal drives off of the backplane and ONE H700 port, and then run max length SAS cabling to the external enclosure to add the next batch of drives.  I think I have the H700 manual...will look through it all, and see what I missed.  Can I take drives from the H700 & H800 and make ONE array out of them?  Looking to RAID6 twelve 12TB drives for a 120TB array.  Thanks.

Running cable from the H700 to outside of the server we wouldn't be able to support with. You also wouldn't be able to span the VD across both controllers, but why don't you just run all the drives on the H800 with the external enclosure?
