Does the PowerEdge 1600sc support the Xeon 3.2 processors with 1MB of L3 cache?

Thanks,

The PowerEdge 1600SC will support the Intel Dual Processor (DP) XEON Processors at speeds up to 3.2GHz, depending on the motherboard installed.

The PowerEdge 1600SC server series shipped with motherboards that supported a 400Mhz Front-Side Bus (FSB), Later in the production cycle of the PowerEdge 1600SC, a new motherboard design was offered, which accommodates a 533Mhz FSB. The 400 Mhz FSB systems are not upgradeable to 533 Mhz FSB.

To determine which FSB speed and processors the system will accommodate, enter System Setup during the boot-up process by pressing the F2 function key as prompted. Look for the CPU Information section.

More information on viewing this information in System Setup can be found HERE   :

While we do not currently have a supply of new 3.2Ghz processors from Intel, we may have such processors available from our Refurbished parts stockrooms. Parts in these stockrooms are labeled as refurbished but are, in fact, either reconditioned parts or, in the majority of cases, new parts that have been transferred to our stockrooms for use by Dell Server Technical support.

Below are the 5-digit part numbers of these processors:

C3040     &nbsp3.2Ghz 1MB Cache Processor, 533FSB
F4334     &nbsp3.2Ghz 2MB Cache Processor, 533FSB

Below are part numbers for the accompanying heatsink/shroud assemblies and retainer clips necessary for the processor.

83MGJ     &nbspHeatsink Clip
P1129     &nbspHeatsink for 3.0Ghz and above
U0993     &nbspProcessor Shroud for 3.0Ghz and above Processor

Dell spare parts can be reached by phone at 1-800-357-3355.

Thanks for using the Dell Community Forums!

I found this post VERY helpful.  Thanks!

I assume not, but can anyone confirm my understanding that when upgrading to a C3040 or F4334, a processor fan is not necessary when using the specified heatsink and shroud?

I'm questioning because I'm surprised to find that with upgrading, I'll no longer need the fan I have now with my lower end processor

Thanks in advance

Hello Mark,

I am replying to an old post and I hope you are still active.  I have a PowerEdge 1600sc.  Will the "3.2Ghz 2MB Cache Processor, 533FSB" cpu be able to work in a 400FSB Board?

Thanks!
