PowerEdge 600SC - OS Doesn't "see" installed memory

Dear All,

I have a Poweredge 600SC with a 1.7Ghz (Celeron processor, it was given to us by Dell with a laptop order)

It came with 128Mb RAM which I've just upgraded to 1Gb (2 X 512Mb PC2100). The BIOS is A07 and is able to 'see' the all the memory.

The Server is running Windows 2000 Advanced Server, but is only able to 'see' 261,620Kb of available RAM.

Can anyone offer any help as to why the OS can't 'see' all the RAM when the BIOS can?

Thanks in advance

Regards,

David

Hi David,

There is an option in the System BIOS called OS Install Mode which limits the memory available to the Operating System to 256Mb. This is for compatibility with some older Operating Systems. Turning the option off should resolve your issue.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the tip. The "OS Install Mode" was turned on in the BIOS as you suspected. Turning it off has solved the problem.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

David
