PowerEdge R610 - ESX 4.1 only sees 12GB RAM out of 16GB

Server has 4*4GB. But ESX sees only 12GB. Which BIOS setting needs changing? :emotion-10:

It came from Dell like this, nothing was changed:

DIMM.Socket.B3 Type  DDR3 DIMM   Size  4096 MB

DIMM.Socket.B2 Type  DDR3 DIMM   Size  4096 MB

DIMM.Socket.A3 Type  DDR3 DIMM   Size  4096 MB

DIMM.Socket.A2 Type  DDR3 DIMM   Size  4096 MB

How do I know idf one is broken? iDRAC reports all is well.

I played the last boot capture and see a Disabled DIMM.

Not sure how our monitoring missed this one.

Thanks!

Hello bar2d2

There are two possibilities I can think of. One would be that the other 4GB is assigned to the OS(ESXi) and only 12GB is available for assignment to VMs. The other possibility is that the memory mode is set to advanced ECC within the BIOS. Advanced ECC will disable a DIMM slot to use for parity. Also, does the BIOS or iDRAC report 12GB or 16GB of memory?

Thanks

iDRAC sees all 4 DIMMs. Is there way to look at BIOS settiings without a boot?
