PowerEdge R720 – Front LCD panel completely dark
We did something that has apparently turned off the front panel LCD display and Power light - The server is up and running normally, just no lights in the front (except for the blinking HHDs). And pressing any of the 3 panel buttons -- left arrow, select, or right arrow does not do anything.
I have been trying to search the web, but can't quite get the right search string to help me find the answer...but I did encounter this bit that seems to make sense, unfortunately it doesn't say how to turn it back on.
...the LCD backlight will remain off if the LCD messaging is turned off; this can be done via the web-based graphical interface, IPMITOOL, Open Mange System Administrator, or a command line too such as RACADM.
Anyone know how to turn this option back on?

Jcarder,
The LCD is part of the Control panel as shown below:
Before removing the control panel:
Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw(s) securing the control panel to the chassis
From inside the system, push the front panel out of the chassis.
Reseat all the cables connecting the control panel to the system board and replace the control panel.

Additional Info:
From inside the iDRAC7 interface: Hardware >> Front Panel
This is what I currently see:
However, I should see something like this:

Jcarder,
It appears the iDRAC is having communication issues. The image that you sent is for our systems with LED indicators, without the LCD. Indeed you are correct, the system should show options for selecting “Set Home Message”
Try the each of the following options.
1. Soft reset of the iDRAC (racadm racreset) and allow a few minutes for iDRAC to boot.
2. Drain Flea Power by shutting down the server and removing power cables. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
3. Update the IDRAC firmware. Select appropriate link below:
iDRAC7 Firmware Version 1.66.65, A00, released 02 Dec 2014, Recommended, May take 8-15 minutes to complete.

4. Reseat the LCD cables
Please let me know if any of the above options resolved the issue. Should you have any questions, I will be glad to assist.

Robert -
We tried options 1 & 2 -- no change. Prior to trying option 3, my management wants to try option 4 first.
Are there any instructions or guide on how to check/ reseat the LCD cables that I can reference?

Thanks Robert -
Suggestion #4 -- Reseating the LCD cables -- did the trick. Power has been restored to the front panel and the iDRAC7 interface (Hardware >> Front Panel) looks like it should.
