Poweredge 840 Supports Widescreen

Just wanted to provide an update.

I have a Poweredge 840 that is running Windows Server 2003.  I've done an extensive web and internet search and most sites (including ATI) states that on-board ATI ES1000 chip doesn't support widescreen.

Just wanted to say that as of January 2009; the latest drivers I have installed are supporting my Dell 23" 1920x1080 widescreen display fine.  It only runs in 16 bit color when you go beyond a certain resolution; but it works fine.

VERY impressed and thought this would be helpful since all other forums and websites states that widescreen is not supported by the ATI ES1000 chipset.

Hello!!

Thanks for telling us this.

But could you please guide me to the driver which worked for you. Actually I have got a similar Server Board with ATI ES 1000 but I could not get it working on 1920x1080.

Thanks,
Nitin

What's the point of using a 1920x1080 display if you're just going to dumb it down to 16-bit color?!

for me, it was a matter of making use of what i've got not about proving any point. i got an old server and a brand new monitor, would you rather have me not do my work and be whining about dumbing down to 16-bit color? ;-)

Or; what's the point of running a server at 1920x1080? A desktop I can understand, but not really a server (even Windows).

Sure, if that's all you have to hook up to it, but I could probably find a better place for that kind of display :)
