Poweredge T410 and Powervault 124t VS160

I have a new Poweredge T410 with Server 2008 R2 installed.  I have connected a Powervault 124t VS160.  My problem is that the tape changer is only showing up as a single DLT drive.  I have downloaded the latest drivers I could find but they were for Server 2008 (not R2).  Any suggestions?  Do I need to roll back to Server 2008?

Thanks,

Orin Eisenhauer

See the PowerVault Compatibility Matrix:

NOTE: The Dell PowerVault 124T VS160 product is not supported in Windows Server 2008. The medium changer will not be detected by the SCSI host bus adapter due to limitations imposed by StorPort drivers, as documented in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967736.

However, under Windows 2008 most backup applications can discover and use the PowerVault 124T VS160 medium changer and drive. As such, even if the Medium Changer is not seen within W2k8 Device Manager, backup software such as Backup Exec will still find the changer (and drive).  Backup Exec has an internal changer driver.  As such, Backup Exec will load a driver for the changer cause it is still able to communicate to the changer though not listed in Device Manager.

Thank you for the response.

The 410 with 2008 R2 was recommended by Dell who were informed of the tape changer that the client already had so somebody erred if it is not on the supported product list.  We are not using Backup Exec we are setting up DPM with short term backup to disk and long term to tape.
