Problem upgrading memory on T110 II

We currently have 4G of this ram and it works

https://www.skhynix.com/products/computing/view.jsp?info.ramKind=20&info.serialNo=HMT351U7BFR8A

We purchased 8G of this type

https://www.skhynix.com/products/computing/view.jsp?info.ramKind=20&info.serialNo=HMT351U6CFR8C

the only difference between them seems to be the voltage.

Please note we are not trying to mix them together, we are just trying the new memory and the server won't boot. It displays the 1/3 error (memory misconfiguration).

We also tried a few more options with ecc and none of them worked.

The processor is

 Processor E3-1220

thank you

Sorry for the delay.  We have received confirmation that the part listed (HMT351U6CFR8C ) has the wrong specifications listed on the Hynix website.  As suspected, it is not an ECC DIMM, and this system explicitly prohibits non-ECC DIMMs.

Hynix indicated that they will update the tech sheets accordingly. They indicated that HMT351U7CFR8C-H9 is the equivalent ECC UDIMM.

Please let us know if you need additional information that we can help with.

Hello,

Let’s first confirm that you have the correct memory slot population.  I assume that you have 2 of the new 4 GB DIMMs (8 GB total).   If so, please ensure that you have them installed in slot 1 (A1), and slot 2 (B1), both of which have the white tabs. You should also test just the new DIMMs one at a time in slot 1 (A1) to ensure that one of them is not faulty and misreporting the true issue.

Secondly, I am looking further into the actual specifications of new set of DIMMs (HMT351U7BFR8A).  Despite the Hynix site showing them as ECC, it appears that other sources are showing them as non-ECC . Your type of PowerEdge server does not support non-ECC memory. Without an actual Dell part number that we can normally cross reference, I’m trying to confirm with Hynix with part that you have provided.

Meanwhile, please let us know your slot population that you used, and how it behaves individually posting with just one DIMM at a time.

Yes, i had them in the correct slots and also individually in A1.

The person i got them from said they were running fine in poweredge t20.

From reading on the net sometimes the problem seems to be the cpu not supporting the memory type like here

Thanks for the update.  Have you checked the BIOS version?  There were several updates to the Intel E3-1200 series microcode over past several revisions. What is your current BIOS version?

The latest version is 2.8.0 (Release date 7/10/2014):

yes we upgraded the bios and also we reset NVRAM.

I have placed the new ram in a normal desktop pc and they work (alongside some other type of ram)
