Problems updating BIOS of an R610 after M/B swap
I went to upgrade my server to 5680 CPU's. When I did, I accidentally damaged one of the CPU sockets. I ordered a replacement motherboard. Installed the CPU's and off to the races. Upon booting, I see the service number of the previous server this board resided in. I also noticed the BIOS was at v2.2.10. WAY old.
Trying to upgrade to 6.4 utilizing a jump drive (the server was set up as an ESXi unit and does not have Windows) I was met with the message that BIOS for a Dell R610 cannot be loaded to a "_" server. The board doesn't even know what it is.
HOW can I set the system type and is it possible to change the service tag to fit my box?

The easiest and fastest way would probably boot a live windows dvd or usb such as Hirens, insert a usb or by other means with this file https://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER01631959M/1/R610_BIOS_C6MRW_WN64_6.4.0.EXE and run it, should update your bios, I also have a r610

Try updating the iDRAC firmware and the lifecycle controller firmware first.
