Processor upgrade for PowerEdge SC1420
Hi,
I have a PowerEdge SC1420 which currently has 2 x Pentium Xeon 3.4 GHz EMT64 processors installed. I would like to installed two new processors which support VT.
The current motherboard / processors run at 800MHz FSB. The ones I want to install run at 1066MHz FSB.
Will these processors work - ie. drop-down?
I understand this would void any warranty (which has expired anyway).
Many thanks for your help,
M.

The SC1420 is pretty old (released in 2004 if I'm not mistaken). This pre-dates VT by a couple of years.
It uses the Intel E7520 chipset. If you check the list of supported processors for that chipset, you'll see that none go over 800MHz FSB.
Even the fastest listed processor (3.80E GHz Xeon), shows under details that there's no support for VT.
