R510 will not install OS - wants drivers

Apologies if this a redundant post. It appears my last attempt did not take.

I am installing Windows 2016 Server Essentials on an R510 from a USB stick. Early in the install I get an error that says "required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing". I found many instances of this in the community, but none appear to be applicable here.

Some background:

- I installed Windows 2016 Standard Server evaluation OS using the same USB stick on the same port. It is working. I erased the USB and refilled it with the essentials installer.

- I got the software as a .rar from Microsoft and made it into ISO. Just in case, I expanded it a second time - to no effect.

There are no CD/DVD drives on the machine, and the USB and all the PERC controlled drives are done in BIOS and are both searchable in the installer. What is the install looking for?

Any suggestions?

Johnmonforte,

I am not showing that the R510 supports or is certified for any version of Server 2016, as seen in this OS Matrix. That being said it doesn't mean you can't get it to work, but we don't know how it will react. What you can try is to install the OS through the Lifecycle Controller (F10 at startup) (update OS Driver pack first before OS install), or with the Build and Update ISO

Let me know if this helps.

I have been running the standard server 2016 for a few months with no problem, so I hope the essentials version would be equivalent.

Meanwhile, I tried booting with F10 and I selected Platform Update/Select Repository. There I chose Local Drive (CD/DVD/USB), and I got the error "No volume available for local repository" despite the fact that the USB is ready to go.

Am I doing something wrong?

With the USB, how are you preparing it and mounting the ISO? Generally this issue is seen due to the media. Another thought is to point the Platform update to the ftp site. The BUU I gave you the link for is a bootable ISO, so you can boot that. If you want to do the Platfor update you can mount this ISO to the USB

I used the BUU ISO by loading it into a USB stick and downloading it from the site using another PC. The reason why I need to use the other PC is that my evaluation software is now expired and the server will only run for an hour and the download takes longer.

With that done, I ran the update software and it discovered a couple items to update. Fortunately, the update took less than an hour.

Unfortunately, the problem persists. Any suggestions?
