R710 Memory mix configuration 4GB & 8GB Module
Dear Concern,
Hi,
I have 4 Dell R710 Server. VMware 5.0 is running on it
Currently I have memory increase issue with me & memory configuration is as below :
4-GB Module install on these slots: A2 A3 A5 A6 A8 A9 - B2 B3 B5 B6 B8 B9 total 48-GB Ram.
I want to add 8-GB Module in 2 Hosts with current configuration
So my question is: Is there any possibility to mix the RAM 4-GB & 8-GB module?
Can I go for this configuration?
Waiting for your reply
Thanks & Regard
Asim

Shkasim,
From what you are saying I assume it is Adv ECC mode. So A and B1, A and B4, and A and B7 are disabled. Now with adding the 8gb, are you planning on removing some of the 4gb to make space or are you wanting to just add the 8gb to the existing configuration?

Hi Chris
Thanks for your reply, yes it is Adv ECC mode with all memory bank full of Dimm with 4-GB Module.
Now I want to add RAM on A1 A4 A7 & B1 B4 B7 with 8-GB module on Optimizer mode.
My question is can I go for this solution..?
Again waiting for your reply

I also am trying to install additional memory into a R710. Our current configuration is
A1: 8GB | A4: 8GB | A7: 4GB | A2: 8GB | A5: 8GB | A8: 4GB | A3: 8GB | A6: 8GB | A9: 4GB
B1: 8GB | B4: 8GB | B7: 4GB | B2: 8GB | B5: 8GB | B8: 4GB | B3: 8GB | B6: 8GB | B9: 4GB
What is odd is that this configuration works in one R710 but not in another.
Any ideas or better practices to work with?
Thanks,
Nate

I am currently running BIOS version 6.0.7 I called support and the tech seemed to think it was the Motherboard. They are coming out to swap it out tomorrow.

Turns out it was a bad motherboard and or processor. They swapped both out and now all three of my R710's are running 120GB in the above config
