R720 RAM Layout 16GB Dual Rank and 8GB Single Rank
We have two older R720s that I'm trying to frankenstein together into one large unit. Not for production use.
Both have dual processors E5-2620, one has 8x 16GB Dual Rank 1333 DDR-3 in Slots A1-4, B1-4, the other has 8x 8GB Single Rank 1333 DDR-3, same slot combo.
Is there a slot setup where I can use all the RAM in one box?

Te default memory mode is "Optimized," which essentially the max performance setting. If you install both processors into one unit, it will activate all the memory slots in the server. As long as you populate the banks evenly, you should be able to use all your memory.
The manual should also be helpful as a reference point, too.

Ok thanks, I'll give it a go.
I did give the manuals a look, but it was very hard to interpret.
