R730 SSD Drives for VMware VSAN 7.0

Hi All.

I am hoping someone can assist me.

We are going to build a new All Flash VSAN 7.0 setup with following specs.

Hardware model R730 PowerEdge.

DELL HBA 330 controller.

I have a doubt on disk selection.

8 drives in total(total drives we are going to use on R730).

I wish to use 1 TB SSD SAS drives for cache tier and 2 TB SSD SAS drives for capacity tier. The most economical SSD drives that are fully supported from both VSAN and DELL.

Im not sure what SSD drives(with SAS protocol) are compatible with my R730 servers and also it should be on the vSAN HCL (which is crucial)

The VMware HCL does not mention the Dell part numbers so matching them is proving very difficult. My supplier is sending me pricing for drives that differ hugely but still hasn't confirmed support on both platforms.

Please can you help me identify which 1 TB SSD SAS drives for cache tier and 2 TB SSD SAS drives for capacity tier so that I can check and use in R730 servers. Whatever you confirm that also should be listed on the VMware vSAN Hardware Compatibility list,

First of all, I would like to s

uggest you to search for more suppliers. Maybe you will get a different point of view from a different one. In fact, I suggest you to use the Dell Partners website where you will be able to find all partners in your country and the nearest to you.

Thanks much for the information.Its very useful information.

Whatever you gave(6 SSD disks),those are available in VSAN compatible list.Its good.

I will definitely check more sellers however where can i check the disk compatibility against Dell R730?

Do we have the same compatibility matrix from Dell like VSAN where we can check the disk compatibility ?

Any idea?

We don't have a customer facing live list of supported drives, as there would be drives added and removed constantly. You can look under parts for my dell, found here,  reach out to us as well.

I have seen so many drives from the given Dell link,however none of those drives are in VSAN compatibility list.

I like to know what are all the drives are compatible(It may be different vendor like,Intel Samsung, Dell) for R730 and also it should be on VSAN compatible list.

Because VMware team should not say the using drive of R730 is not compatible in near future.

To know about this,I need to reach to Dell technical team or chat service ?

Hi,

Like Diego's shared previously post we can't reach more than SSD for R730 in our spare part tool. Unfourtanetly we don't have a list such a separately compatible list for VSAN. Of course, you can also reach our other support lines.
