R730 extra drives

Hi,

We have a Poweredge R730 that is configured for up to 8 SSD drives.

With the current configuration unfortunatly we cannot add any more drives to this server.

Can we use one of these pci cards to add more drives to the server?

LSI SAS 9300-8i Host Bus Adapter

or

Delock PCI Express Card -> Hybrid 4 x int SATA III RAID - LP

Or is there any other solution to this issue?

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for the service tag.

Here is a link to the http://www.dell.com/work/shop/lsi-12gb-sas-9300-8e-hba-dual-port-customer-kit/apd/406-bbdm/storage-drives-media for the HPA. If you check under compatibility you'll see that the R730 is listed.

The R730 does not support Express Flash drives.

Thank you,

Hello,

See if this link works better. http://www.dell.com/work/shop/accessories/apd/406-bbdm

The R730XD will accept the pci cards, but not R730.

Thanks,

Hi Jimmy,

Thanks for your reply,

your link point us to this card,

LSI 12Gb SAS 9300-8e HBA, Dual Port, Customer Kit

I think this is for external use , we have already some SSD drives and we would like to add them to our R730.

Thanks

Hi,

I sent an email yesterday with the link for the HBA. Email used was shahin3213@gmail.com.

The PCI card will not work in the R730, only in the R730XD.

Hi,

We don't have any internal HBAs available on the Dell Site. An internal HBA would be used for a non-standard application.

There is another option you may want to consider. It is unsupported After Point Of Sale (APOS). There are backplanes available in our spare parts inventory. These part are used to replace defective parts. There is not an upgrade kit, so we are unable to say what additional parts my be needed. You may need additional controller cables or power cables or something else. You can contact the Dell Spare Parts department for availability. PN 8TGM0 ASSY Backplane, 16X2.5 inch Backplane and Expander Combo Card, Contains Bare Backplane Part # 778N6/7K5HK, PowerEdge R730, (BP0)

Hi Jimmy,

I have 2 more questions,

on the R730 mainbord we see two connections, can we add a 850 Pro SSD drive directly to one of these connections? I send you a screenshot of.

Also drives need power, can we replace the current 8 core power bord with a 16 one?

Thakns

You can use the SATA port or the controller, but not both. So that wouldn't be a viable option to add additional drives. The configuration can't be upgraded after point of sale.

Have you considered using DAS or external storage to add addition drives?

Hi,

Here is a link to some available storage.

http://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/cty/sc/storage-products/direct-attached-storage

Sales would also be able to assist with available options.

Thanks,
