T110 max memory

Hi,

I've read the specifications and am aware that the T110 officially supports 16gb max while the T110 II officially support 32gb max. I'd like to know if anyone has tested 8gb dimms in the T110 because I can't find any limiting factor for the 16gb limit. From what I can see the chipset and CPU (Xeon X3450) supports 32gb max. I'm hoping that it's simply a case of 8gb dimms not being availabe at the time the T110 was launched.

Additionally, I currently have 8gb in this server (2x4gb dimms) and due to the cost of 8gb dimms would like to put an additional single 8gb dimm in to bring the total memory to 16gb with room to expand later. Is a configuration like this allowed?

Hi Daniel,

I checked on the availability of 8 Gb DIMM chips for the T110 system, and it seems that it is still not a supported configuration.  Thus if you would like to have additional 8Gb memory, you would need to use another 2 x 4Gb DIMM chips. I do not have a T110 unit for testing with 8Gb DIMMs to perform real-life validation, but the limitation is probably due to the system's original board and BIOS design.

Just for reference, the system's specifications could be found on page 8 of the system's manual :

Thank you.

The cpu in my t110 is a Xeon x3450, which from what I've read supports 32gb ram. What exactly is the limiting factor?

The limiting factor is a combination of the processor and system design:

1. The Intel 3400-series processors ONLY support 32GB using RDIMM's (Registered DIMM's - 8GB max) ... 16GB using UDIMM's (Unbuffered/Unregistered DIMM's - 4GB max).

2. The PowerEdge T110 supports only UDIMM's.

Hello,

I have the same question. I have a PowerEdge T110 and I want to make a memory upgrade.

I read in other forums that this server only supports 16GB RAM. I haven't tested it myself to see if 32GB can be supported.

Have anyone else installed 32GB RAM?

I just updated my T110 to 32GB. I don't know if it's necessary but I did upgrade the BIOS first to v1.12.0, then I found the following 4 x 8GB ECC DIMMs on ebay, total cost was £30 for 32GB RAM. It works a treat.

Hynix | 32GB (4 X 8GB) | HMT41GU7BFR8A-PB | ECC Server RAM

Make sure you get ECC RAM, most of the stuff on Amazon appears to be non-ECC, and not sure that will work. You can tell if it's ECC RAM as the sticks will have 9 chips on them instead of 8.
