T320 new H710P not recognized by IDrac7

Question

Replaced an PERC H320 with H710P. Everything appeared to go fine, however I did see a message during POST 'Part replacement license is not present'. The server booted just fine. I checked System Management and there is no storage controller listed. I tried to update the firmware and it tells me that the card does not exist. I put the H320 back in and everything is back to normal, only slower. Do I need to upgrade to an enterprise idrac license to be able to fully detect this H710P and to be able to upgrade the firmware on the card? Also, in the alert logs I get his reported by the Storage Service, 'The initialization sequence of SAS components failed during system startup. SAS management and monitoring is not possible.'

Which H710 did you get? the 'adapter' or the 'integrated' card? Integrated must go in the integrated slot, adapter must go in a standard PCIe slot (cannot go in the integrated/storage slot).

I am getting this message 'Part replacement license is not present' also after replacing the PERC H310 to an H710P. I have the 'Basic' license. I also cannot upgrade the firmware in this new controller and it does not show in the OAS. It does show in the Windows device manager. Do I have to purchase an 'enterprise' iDrac licenses for this card to be recognized by the iDrac?

The adapter, to replace the same card the H310 was. Just replaced the same card in the same slot with part number 7GCGT. Is that the correct part number for the T320? When I look in Windows device manager it is detected but the name says 'PERC H710P for Dell Precision'. Why would it say that? Also, OSA does not detect any storage controllers and displays this message in the log, 'The initialization sequence of SAS components failed during system startup. SAS management and monitoring is not possible.'

7GCGT is an H710P adapter that is validated for the T320. There are variants of the H710, if you are getting a message that it is an H710 for a workstation then someone may have force flashed the controller with firmware for the H710 that is used in workstations. If it has been force flashed with workstation firmware then it will identify itself with the device ID of the workstation version of the controller. If you try to update it with the server version firmware it will give errors about compatibility. This may also be why it is not showing up correctly in management software. Management software like OMSA is not supported on workstations.

The part replacement message has nothing to do with your issue. That message can be ignored, it should only show that message once or until a new system inventory is run. That is just a feature that allows the system to maintain firmware revisions during part replacement.

Ok, might be getting somewhere. The current firmware is 21.0.2-0002. Is that a workstation version?
