The most recent\powerful Server: R910 or R820,

The most recent\powerful Server: R910 and R820,

We are planning to purchase the most recent Dell server (Rack Type)

 Is it R910 or 820?

What is the most recent\powerful Intel CPU that can be plugged on these servers?

 Thank you

 Best

Jamal Numan,

The R820 is the more recent of the 2 servers and one of the latest released.

The R910 can support the more powerful processor, the Xeon 7560. Where the R820 supports the Xeon 5460L.

What are your plans for the server? Whats its role to be?

Thank you very much Dell-Chris for the very valuable answer.

At the moment, we are looking for the latest Dell server with highest performance possible to accommodate our GIS system. Our system is fully dependent on the CPU capacity, number of cores and RAM size.

In this case, what might be the best option for us: is it R910 or R820? With which CPU?

I'd suggest to talk to the software vendor and see which CPU family yields better performance with their software; Xeon E7 family or Xeon E5-4600 family.

If E7, then you're looking at an R910, but if E5-4600, the R820 is the better choice.

Many thanks Dev for the answer,

At the movement, what confuses me the most is which one is more powerful

 R901 with E7 family

OR

R820 with E5 family?
