install GEFORCE RTX 3090 in Poweredge T440

I have a Dell PowerEdge T440 with 64GB of RAM, 2 Bronze CPUs, 2 1100W power Supplies and NO add-on cards.

Can I install a GEFORCE RTX 3090 GPU?

If I install the above card, can I also install the ASUS STX II (7.1) sound card?

Both require direct power supply connections but 1 of the 1100W power supplies is more than enough.

Detailed answers are greatly appreciated.

TY In Advance.

Hi,

As much as I would like to provide details for you, but there is no documentation for T440 support on RTX 3090. You can refer to this white paper for support GPU on T440: https://dell.to/3abdiEX

You can refer to the user guide for T440 on GPU installation requirement on page 75: https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/poweredge-t440_owners-manual10_en-us.pdf

GPU installation for the server, may need GPU enablement kit. Here the existing old thread about it: https://dell.to/3gdmRqK. But the kit is available for support GPU only. So this is for your reference.

As for sound card, I doubt it would work, as you may need drivers to work on the server. And you will need to install server supported OS.

If you do manage to successfully install both cards and working well, do update us here for sharing to other users.

Hello @Marijus

I am looking to do something similar with my T440. Could you please elaborate on this a little bit more?

  • How did it work?
  • Does it work as expected?
  • Were there any errors/issues with installing the RTX 3090?
  • How did you connect the power to the GPU?
  • Anything else I need to know before purchasing a GPU for my T440?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there, I am using now an RTX3050 but a while ago I was using in the same Dell T440 the RTX3060 12GB (which soon to be reinstalled), I dont have any problem just connecting the 8Pins cable from the PSU PCB backplane (which are both 1100Watts)  to the video card cable connector and obviously the  Nvidia drivers
