CIO Management Software & DOSA on PE4400
Scenario - I have 4 PE4400's, all running DOSA v3.2.2 and 3 of them also running CIO Array Management v4.01. (OS is Win2K by the way :-)
Problem - on the 3 machines running the CIO software, when I clear the Application Log the SNMP service maxes out the CPU within 10-15 seconds. This problem does not occurr on the 4th machine. Restarting the SNMP services restores calm.
Question - I've noticed that the SNMP service depends on the CIO Array Management Service 4.01. Can I just un-install the CIO apps and make do with the DOSA software, seeing as it seems to be doing the job OK, and has the same functionality as the CIO Array Mgmt?
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Ric,
I would recommend uninstalling the CIO software. It is not needed and as you note, duplicates the Dell OpenManage software. The CIO software is not installed at all when using the latest Dell OpenManage products.

Mark, thanks for the quick reply.
removed CIO software, but the fault is still ocurring - when I try to clear the Application Log the CPU jumps to 100%, wit hthe SNMP.exe process grabbing the most of this capacity.
I'm checking things like firmware versions at the minute trying to find some difference between the servers the fault is ocurring on and the 4400 that is problem free.
By the way, all 4 PE'2 have identical hardware.
If I find a solution I'll post it but I could do with some direction......
thanks again,
ric

Hi Ric,
I have 2 possible suggestions which may possibly resolve the issue:
There was a SNMP memory and handle leak that occured with older versions of the Intel PROSet application. This problem appears on the server as high SNMP activity, disappearing network associated icons, IP address disappearing, slow system performance as resources are consumed, system lockups, and "unexpected error occurred" when right-clicking on your Network Connection.
The fix is included in the latest verison of the driver and PROSet.
Intel PRO Family of Adapters, Driver, Windows 2000, v.6.7, A00
FileName: Intel_LAN_67_W2K_A00.exe [6 MB]
Release Date: 7/3/2003

The fix is not as easy as just installing the driver. Here is the process.
1. Uninstall the PROSet application.
2. Stop the SNMP service
3. Search for any instances of the filename "ilansnmp.dll" on the system and rename the file to something else.
4. Reinstall the PROSet software from the download I listed above.
5. Next, go into the \MgmT_Apps\Apps\SNMP\AGENT\W2KWS03 directory of the download and run the "SNMPAg32.msi" file.
6. Restart the SNMP service
There was also an SNMP error with the Array Manager software:
Array Manager, SNMP Patch, NW, Windows, v.3.2.x, 3.3.x and 3.4.x, A00
FileName: snmpfx.exe [95 KB]
Release Date: 4/11/2003
