Could not collect BIOS version and Inventory collection failed

Question

Attempting to upgrade the BIOS on a PE2850 with a new installation of Windows 2000 results in the error message: Program could not collect the BIOS version Package: PE2850_BIOS_WIN_A05.EXE Also receive error message: Inventory collection failed when attempting to load - BMC firmware: ESM_FRMW_WIN_R119280.EXE and RAID firmware:RAID_FRMW_WIN_R126663.EXE Any shove in the right direction would be appreciated.

When all else fails - try the floppy versions:   http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/PE2850-BIOSA05.EXE http://ftp.us.dell.com/esm/PE2800-2850BmcA07.exe

However for mass, unattended deployments the floppy option is not really an option.

So for the final fix:

Navigate to the following registry location -

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor

Delete AutoRun:REG_SZ:cd\
