I'm using a PowerEdge XR2 using the latest 4.40.00.00 iDRAC and the 20.08.09 driver pack mounted, and i'm trying to deploy RHEL 8.2.

I'll try a few other releases to see if that changes anything. For the meantime I've just booted the RHEL 8.2 virtual media directly and installed the OS, but would much prefer to use the LC so I can make the process more streamlined when our team have to build more.

I'll give that a go. On that note, do you know when the downloads page for the XR2 will be updated? It's still listing old version of OS drivers for RHEL from 2019: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-nz/product-support/product/oth-r440-xr/drivers

Also, the other models like R740 still only list RHEL 7.8 and 8.2 - when can we expect updated driver packs for RHEL 7.9 and 8.3?

I'm afraid that the update cycle isn't something we have much visibility to. I know that we release updates on roughly a quarterly basis, but I wouldn't be able to say what would be coming in those release windows, for example.  What I can do though, is submit some feedback requesting an updated driver pack.

Interestingly, I tried an older R730 and lo and behold, that worked...same media, so possibly an issue with the XR2/iDRAC.

On a separate note, I see the R730 supports RHEL 8, yet the latest OS driver pack (18.12.04, A00) does not actually include 8.x drivers...am I missing something here?

The thing with the OS Driver Pack is that it uses a small available internal storage to store the drivers pack. It is such a limited space that it is not possible to include all OS drivers at the same time. You are correct, the R730 supports RHEL 8 but the OS Driver pack does not contain the drivers. So this means that you can install RHEL 8 but you will need to download the drivers and apply them during the instalation.

For example, if you go to firmwares and drivers download page, you will see that you can choose RHEL as OS. So from here you should be able to download the drivers: https://dell.to/3btSk5h
