Driver aacraid in kernel 2.6 gives aacraid: SCSI bus appears hung
Hi,
I got a problem with the Dell CERC SATA 1.5/6ch RAID controller in my Dell PowerEdge SC1420: during backups from another disk to the RAID container, I got the message "aacraid: SCSI bus appears hung" in my syslog and after that the disk array went offline with the message "sd 2:0:1:0: scsi: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery".
I use linux 2.6.15 kernel with the aacraid driver compiled in. Linux is installed on another Ultra320 SCSI-disk, attached to the secondary Adaptec Ultra320-controller, and uses the RAID-container for data. The aacraid driver messages appeared during a backup script that creates a tar-file of several file systems on the SCSI-disk to the RAID-container.
After a nescessary reboot, the RAID-controller worked okay and no data was lost.
The firmware of the RAID-controller is version 4.1-0 (Build #7417), the latest version I could find on support.dell.com.
Is there a solution to my problem?
Also, the RAID-controller is rather slow during writes, it seems to block I/O during heavy writing. Does anyone else also experience this? Is it a driver problem?
Thanks,
Michiel
