Not real sure as to why your installing on different drives.

One of the drives has to be the primary boot drive, correct?

If, Drive D (Loaded with Windows XP) is primary, and you start installing on Drive C:, when system reboots, I will look to Drvie D: as it is the primary drive.  The same would be true if Drive C: is primary and your attempting to load 2003 on Drive D:

Might I suggest you partition Drive C: to be large enough for both Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server and choose the OS to load when booting up?

Just a thought.

Let us know, please.

First of all it is not recommended to install 2 OS on same partition.

My C: drive is 20 GB and D:  is 18. My main preference of OS is going to be Windows Server 2003 as I will be using it for software development. So i want to install Server 2003 on C.

Well I was successfull in installing the OS's.I reformatted the harddisk.Installed XP on D.I installed Windows server 2003 on C from command prompt.Actually I was trying the same previously but was unable.I don't know till now what was going wrong that time or what i did right this time.

Thanks.
