I am having the same problem when I try to install OpenManage 4.2, but when I tried the 4.1 version it would not install the server portion only the IT assistant and management console.
This is the first time I've done this, but I'm sure I read that Openmanage is free for all servers. I only need to monitor a single server at the moment and this seemed like the way to do it.
I may be doing something wrong, or Openmanage might not support SC1420's. I'm hoping someone will assist.
I'm also seeing this on a PowerEdge SC1425 in that it won't allow me to install it as a managed station, only a management station. I just used the same CD to install OpenManage on three 750s, so not sure what's going on here.
This is part of an email from a Dell Rep as to a response as why "Server Administrator" will not work on a 1420SC
We are coming out with a new release in about 2 weeks that is a complete re-write for both ITA and SA. You may want to wait until then as they is significant added functionality.
I have an SC1420, purchased without an operating system. I obtained and installed Windows Server 2003 in it and its running fine. I need to monitor the temperature and notice that Dell provide Openmanage.
Tried installing its and got the following error:
This system is not recognized as a Dell system.
Managed system software components can only be installed on Dell systems.
What am I doing wrong? Is this the correct software or do Dell (or someone else) provide other software that is more suitable.
I just got off with Dell support. The first question he asked me was if I installed SP1 on my Win 2k3 box. Yup. He said there will be a fix for it "early-mid May." He also mentioned, but Dell doesn't recommend, that some customers have uninstalled SP1, installed OpenManage and re-installed SP1.
The most common Problem is End of Life and End of Support for said system. Make sure that you use the correct version of the software. It must be for your OS and support your server if its too old or too new .

This thread in not about the PE 1400/1400 SC but the

I know that. If you look at all the versions of the open manage from 1.0 to 2.0
the 1420SC is not supported. Seems that it doesnt really have any Sensors and other
items that the other servers do.
The downloads for the various versions of open manage list what servers they support.
The 1420SC is not supported on ANY version. So you will get the correct error that this is not a supported system.

Dell PN K8016 for the Assistant CD and (Dell POWEREDGE SC Server Installation)
Dell PN M8013 for the Documentation CD. (Dell POWEREDGE SC Documentation.)
If you have the supported and Correct version of the software it installs and it works. :P

Download and install this
ftp://customer:customer@dropbox.us.dell.com/dropbox2/ips/DSET/Dell_DSET_1.0X19d.exe
See if it lets you work with the system and 2003 server.

The only way to get this is to purchase an open manage subscription and SPECIFY the part numbers from the previous post.
