What kind of IO modules do you have on the blade chassis (in A1/A2)? This is where the NICs in the server connect to.

There are several options, but the main 2 options are:

- passthrough module (means slot/blade 1 goes to port 1, etc)

- switch (could be PowerConnect, Cisco or Force10) -> this may need to be configured for it to work

You'll have to connect this module to your LAN for the blade to have LAN connectivity.

Hi and thanks for your answer. I have two PowerConnect 6220 cards in the M1000e and just found out, that the server gets a network connection, when I connect the ports 17 (I have only 17-20 on each card) of A1 and A2 to the LAN. I don't really understand this system as I thought it should be redundant und work with one cable attached too.

The 2 M6220's are not internally connected to eachother.

Each M6220 has 16 internal ports and 4 external port (hence the "20" in the model name). Blades 1 to 16 connect to the internal ports 1 to 16. The 4 external (17 to 20) are for connectivity to your LAN. You can buy stacking modules for these switches, but without those each switch should have at least 1 link to your LAN.

DevMgr, many thanks, that really helped a lot. We have these stacking modules too, but I have no idea where I shall install and connect them. We have the M1000e, two switches M6224 and an EquaLogic SAN. I already placed one stacking module in each 6224 and have four left. Do I have to install these four in the M1000e? How do I connect them with the special cables which came with them?

You may want to consult the EqualLogic Configuratin Guide: en.community.dell.com/.../2639.equallogic-configuration-guide.aspx, look at the section "4.7 Blade Server Chassis Integration".  This should give you a really good idea what you need to do.

Also this link has a lot of useful information as well: en.community.dell.com/.../2632.storage-infrastructure-and-solutions-team-publications.aspx

You also might want to check your support contract, you may have the option to have a Dell Service Tech come out and help you get everything setup properly.  Contact your sales team for info.

Hello Everyone

We have a similar problem with the M620 blade server we recently migrated from a M610 in another chassis running Windows Server 2012 DC Os

Here is our setup

Two stacked Dell M8024-k blade switches in SLOT A1 & A2

Each M620 has an embedded NIC (Intel Ethernet 10g 2p X520K BNDC with internal ports up

The M620 IDRAC has a 192.168.0.116 IP address with 192.168.0.1 Gateway

The Windows Server 2012 DC has 192.168.0.21 IP address with same gateway

From the M620 Remote Console we can browse the Windows Server 2012 but there is no network connectivity between the Windows Server 2012 and the Dell IDRAC

We cannot ping anything outside the Windows Server

But we can ping from the firewall the M620 IDRAC IP of 192.168.0.116

I am pulling my hair out on this one - Please help

NB: the rest of our network works fine with the rest of the M620 blade servers except the windows server m620 blade server

Thanks in advance

Ransome
