Installing Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 on new PowerEdge 2900 *issues*

Hello... Need some help with this.

I have a new PowerEdge 2900. I am using server assistant to install a supported OS, Windows Server 2003 R2 x64. I burned many iso's, redownloaded from MS, and everytime while it is copying the OS files in that part of the Server Assistant setup it gets to a point and says. Copy error on the CD. Either the CD is damaged blah blah blah...  So I burnt a Win2000 Adv Server disk, and went through the Server Assistant and it copied without issue, and then of course installed that OS.

What is going on that it keeps telling me something is wrong with the cd if it contains either Windows Server 2003 R2, R1, x64 or x86.

Thanks

I don't know what you're trying to do but your PowerEdge 2900 is design to use Windows 2003 OS and use Dell's OpenManage to install. There are many new sensors and gizmos that are not supported in Windows 2000. "You'll be missing those..."

i have the same problem on a PE2950 (three in fact) when i boot with the dell setup cd in all goes well and i am asked for the win2003 64-bit cd and then the copying files message appears. all seems to go well up to 95% when the install halts and a message saying insert windows cd appears. i know the boot cd's work because i have cut 4 and two of those i have installed completely on a desktop and a laptop. i tried booting from the Win2003 r2 ent x64 disk but i am unable to add the 3rd-party drivers so that it can see the hardrives.

I had a simular problem on a dell PE1800, it would work fine during software install from a CD but from a DVD rom it would fail to copy files at random points in the install. I had 2 pe1800's and one went fine and i had the problem on the other. I replaced the DVD drive on the problem server and it worked fine.

By chance is your install disk that has copy errors a DVD disk. Because a DVD/CD drive has different hardware for reading CD's or DVD, so one can work good and the other can fail.

Apologies for not updating sooner.
Downloading and booting from the latest Dell server management CD sorted out the problem.

it would be a nice idea if the latest server update cd's are sent to purchasers of new servers where the in-box cd's are out of date.
