I have a PE2300 running an AMI Megaraid card with 3 18.2GB Fujitsu scsi drives configed in a RAID 0 array and 2003 installed fine.

I am running RC1 though. I have a copy of the final release candidate on the way so I will get back to you when it arrives.

The only problems I have had so far was one of my disks decided to play up the other day and I lost my array, but I recreated the configuration and it started working fine again.

Thanks for the reply bootsector.  I had the same problem trying to install RC2 on this box as well.  I was hoping that the production version of W2K3 would work, but no such luck.  I upgraded a PE2550 with a PERC3/SC controller and RAID1 to W2K3 this past weekend with no problems.  It must be something with the original version of the PERC controller in the 2300.

Hi Steve,

Unfortunately the original Perc, a 2 channel AMI based card, is not compatible with Windows Server 2003.

FYI, for users with the Adaptec based Perc's, it is highly recommended to have the 2.7.1 version of firmware. Do not use the native driver included with the Operating System unless you have firmware 2.7.1 installed.

I am running Windows 2003 Enterprise on a PowerEdge 4200 with an AMI PERC with no problems using the default drivers loaded by the OS.  And we have it running on PE2300's in the test lab at work. I also have had no problems installing and running the PERC Console. Although "Not Supported", it can be done.

Hi there,

I have setup a lab for a migration.  Using 4200 PE servers, RAID 5 9GB drives. Using the Perc 2/DC AMI i can get a windows 2000 server to upgrade to 2003 without any issues.  I can't however get a clean windows 2003 server standard edition or enterprise on to it.  I have upgraded the BIOS and firmware of the controller to the latest Dell versions. U84 and A05.

When i install 2003 server, after the initial copying of the windows setup files it does not boot into the GUI part of the Windows 2003 server installation.  Gives a disk config error.  I have used the SCSI/RAID drivers (F6, within setup)you provide on the Dell website too for the installation, still the same errors.

Are there any fixes for this, as i have it running with an upgrade.  But i need a clean install, as you can understand my testing requirements.

Regards

According to Dell, The PERC II is not Windows 2003 compatible. What follow is unsupported!

A clean install can be accomplished using the W2K PERC II driver. Choose F6 during the installation to specify a driver. You will be warned that there is a certified Microsoft 2003 driver included and it should be used unless told otherwise by the manufacturer. Proceed using the W2K driver.

Note: According to another post, the PECR II limit on a bootable partion is 12GB. I used 8GB.

During the install I was warned three times that the driver I was using is not Windows 2003 certified but it appears to be work just fine.

Good Luck!

Hi, Actually we have also this AMI RAID Controller problem. I used the drivers that supported Windows 2003 but actually it doesnt. I used the Windows 2000 driver and it works.
