NIC and IPMI

I have question about Dell Power Edge 1425SC. Your IPMI system doesnt work correctly. When I
remotely powering off server - server goes off-line completelly. I mean network card goes
off-lene (green light isn't on) - but it suppose to be. To make network card's green light
on I just need unplug the power cord for few seconds and pug it back. This is the main
option in IPMI that allows administrators to turn on/off, reboot, manage without booting any
operation system.
I'm using ipmitool software.

I have this exact same issue with PowerEdge 1850. Anyone know if this is a bug, or if there is a workaround? Basically, if I either do a "poweroff" from Linux, or use "ipmitool .... chassis power soft" (which makes a graceful shutdown of the OS), the power to everything, including the NIC is removed. Therefore, I can't ipmi via the LAN anymore, unless I pull the power cord out and put it back in again!

They promised me that next BIOS version will fix this bug.
Will see.

I got this to work just fine with system BIOS A01 and BMC Firmware A01 Build 1.30 and telnetting to port 623 on another system running the Serial over Lan Proxy from the Open Manager Server Adminstrator CD version 4.3.

With some diligent work by Dell support and engineering, we have resolved this issue. The problem stems from the Wake on LAN (WOL) feature on the NIC's not being enabled when they ship these boxes from the factory. The solution involves turning on WOL, which I will explain below.

Note: You will need a Windows machine to create a floppy and copy a tool to the floppy.

1. Download the Intel DOS utililties located at ftp://ftp.dell.com/network/Intel_LAN_70_DOSUtilities_07.exe to the desktop of the system.

2. Double-click the downloaded file from the desktop.

3. The Win-Zip Self-Extractor opens. Click the Unzip button. Files are unzipped to the default directory of C:\Intel\DOSUtilities directory.

4. Click the OK button once the file has extracted, and then click the Close button to close the Win-Zip Self-Extractor program.

5. Browse to the C:\Intel\DOSUtilities directory.

6. Copy IBAUtil.exe from the BOOTAGNT folder onto a DOS-bootable floppy.

7. Boot the server to the DOS bootable floppy.

8. At the A:\ prompt, type ibautil -all -fe and press the key.

9. Type ibautil -all -pxe and press the key.

10. Type ibautil -all -wole and press the key.

11. Remove the floppy disk.

12. Reboot the system and the Intel Boot Agent will initialize during boot.

That's it! You are done. Everything should work as expected.
