Open Manage tools on Windows 2003 SP1

Hi,  Im just rebuilding a Dell 2550 with a slipstreamed Windows 2003 Ent SP1 CD and all is working fine except for the Dell Open Manage tools (Server Manager and IT Assistant) wont install as SP1 is not a supported OS.  Is there a work around for this or will I just need to wait a few days for a new release of the tools.

Also the Dell Open Manage Array manager doesnt see my containers or Perc only the Scsi?

From everything I've seen you will have to wait until June for the new release of OMSA and ITA for Server 2003 SP1.

As for your Array Manager problem, it sounds like you are using the MS drivers instead of the Dell drivers.  Try loading the Dell drivers and I believe that will take care of that.

I have found if you install Open Manage first, then SP1 for Windows 2003 you can get away with it.

However, although I haven't had any problems yet, it hasn't been time tested.

Per Dell Enterprise eSupport...

There is not currently a version of OpenManage that will install on a

server after Windows 2003 SP1 is installed. This is supposed to become

available sometime in June,

As long as OpenManage is installed before SP1, it should work with no

problems.

There are no workarounds that I have found...

I have found that installing OpenManage 4.3 before installing SP1 only works to a certain extent. That is, service pack 1 breaks the diagnostic utility in Server Administrator.

Evidently dell is releasing an OpenManage update to 4.4 sometime in May, which will allow OpenManage to install under sp1. The following link is Dell's guide to installing SP1 on PowerEdge systems.

David,

If you did not install the Dell OEM RAID controller drivers, then none of the Array Management software will work properly.  Since Win2K3 has native drivers for many PERCs, the OS will install on most systems without hitting F6 and loading the driver off floppy.  Try updating the driver for your PERC with the appropriate version for the firmware that you are running.  Unfortunately with Array Manager not working, you'll have to reboot the system to get the firmware version.
