PowerEdge 1900 and SC1430 OS installation and option, and memory support
Dear Dell Tech. Rep and others,
I have 2 questions regarding PowerEdge 1900 and SC1430 series. 1.) OS support and 2.) Memory Support. normal unbuffer RAM? I hope you can help me out.
1.) Basically, the question is "Can I install any Windows OS and Linux system on these systems?" To be more specific, can I install Windows 2000 server or above in these system? and for other OS, I would like to know if I can install Solaris 10, gentoo linux or other distro?
I notice that for PowerEdge 1900, the specs listed the OS support on the following:
Factory installable:
Red Hat® Linux® Enterprise v5
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 4 Gold EM64T
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 4 Gold x86
Novell SuSE Linux ES 10 x86-64
Microsoft® Windows Server® 2003 R2 Enterprise
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 SBS
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1 Web Edition
Validated, but not factory installable:
Microsoft Windows Server 2000 SP4 Advanced
Microsoft Windows Server 2000 SP4 Standard
And for SC1430
Factory installable:
Microsoft® Windows Server® 2003 R2, Standard Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2, x64 Standard Edition
Microsoft® Windows® Small Business Server 2003 Standard Edition
Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition
SUSE® Linux Enterprise Server 10 x86-64
So, it seems that SC1430 doesn't support Redhat as well???
The reason I asked is that I purchased a 1850 or 1900 (I forgot the model number, but it looks exactly like the 1900 now) early 2007 without OS installed. I was trying install Windows 2000 AS onto. However, the system kept telling me the installation is not validated. I tried other OS, still failed.
This was very unexpected. So I end up have to purchase a brand new Windows 2003 server.
I was so mad, because Dell never called out that older versions do not support.
now, I need to purchase another server. I am still thinking if I should get an HP or Dell. I hope I can get some info. here before purchasing.
2.) Both system listed support Fully Buffered SDRAM. So Does it mean it does not support unbuffered SDRAM?
Hope you can help me out. thanks in advance.
Now I would like to pr
