PowerEdge 2300 - Installing NT 4 terminal server
TAG NUMBER - R0FM6
Hi all, i am trying to reinstall a Dell PowerEdge 2300 with Windows NT 4 Terminal server (which it previously had installed and working for 4 years )
I am using the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD ( Version 5.3.0 ) to set it up, now there is only an option for "Windows NT 4 Server" not Terminal Server, so if i select that and go through the setup process when it gets to the point of asking for the NT CD it just ejects the CD drive and says i need to put in "Windows NT 4 Server" i have tried 2 different copys of Windows NT 4 Terminal Server at this point and they both do the same. So i tried a copy of normal Windows NT Server 4 and that installed ok.
We have loads of these model of server running NT 4 terminal server, so i know they work, but i cant get this one to. The only thing i can think it is the version of the Dell OpenManage CD i have ? Does anyone know about this at all ? I need to rebuild this server ASAP with terminal server on it so i can restore data etc.
Thanks
Duncan

Unfortunately, the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD (DOSA) just does not support Terminal Server. You will have to install the "old-fashioned" way.
NT 4.0 has the requirement to press F6 to load Scsi or Raid drivers. There is no prompt, you just have to know when to press the F6 key to interrupt the setup program.
NT 4.0 Installation Guide
Boot to your Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 CD. When the message "Setup is now inspecting your hardware configuration" appears, press [ F6].
NOTE: When the first blue screen appears, you have approximately 1 second to press [F6]. The next message must say "Setup was unable to detect ..." If not you did not press F6 fast enough.
If a PERC is present, perform steps A-B below. If a PERC is not present, perform step B only:
A. Press to specify additional devices, select Other, insert your PERC disk, and then follow the prompts to install the drivers.
B. Press again, select Other, insert your SCSI driver diskette, then follow the prompts to install the drivers.
Continue with the installation using the on-screen prompts as a guide, while noting the following important considerations:
** When installing device drivers, always click Have Disk, if given the option. NEVER allow NT to search for devices, as doing so may result in a corrupt installation.
** When you choose the role of the server (PDC, BDC or Stand Alone) keep in mind that you cannot go from Stand Alone to Domain Controller or vice-versa after the install is complete, so make sure that you know what the proper role of your server is before specifying it.
** Do not install video drivers until Service Pack 3, or later version, has been installed.
