B.       Where can I find the latest drivers, utilities, and applications from Dell for my system?

All drivers, utilities, and applications for the PowerEdge 400SC (as well as for all Dell systems) can be found on our Support website at http://support.dell.com. Simply choose your system type or provide the service tag of the system as needed, choose Downloads, then choose the operating system type. A list of system-specific files will then be made available for download.

C.       What are the unidentified devices in Windows 2000 Device Manager on my system?

The PowerEdge 400SC uses the Intel 875P "Canterwood" chipset. Windows Operating Systems do not have drivers native for this chipset, which will cause several devices to show up as unknown. This driver will resolve the issue:

D.       What Operating Systems are supported on my system?

Logo certifications provide customers with an additional level of assurance that Dell has designed, tested and certified its products to rigorous standards established by Dell and the operating system vendors.

Systems that have been designed to meet industry standards enable customers to more readily deploy and maintain interoperable, integrated solution sets.

Dell encourages customers to visit the operating system vendor's hardware compatibility list to review details on the Dell systems that have passed certification testing.

E.       Where can I find Windows XP Home/Professional drivers for my system?

Given that the PowerEdge 400SC server (as with all PowerEdge models) is a server-class system, it has been validated and tested only with server-class operating systems including Windows 2000 Server/Advanced Server, Windows 2003 Server, Novell Netware, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Desktop operating systems such as Windows XP might work with your system; however, driver support would need to be obtained through the manufacturers of the equipment for which drivers are needed. You might try consulting with other customers in our Dell Community Forums for advice on how to make such alternative operating systems function. Some customers have reported success with installing XP Professional on their systems.

F.       What are the 4 LEDs on the back of the system for?

These are diagnostic indicators. When they are all green, the system is operating normally. However, if after the Power On Self Test (POST) is complete, any of the LEDs are yellow, the system is in an alarm condition.

For information about the meaning of alarm codes see this link.

The only document available via the "PowerEdge 400SC System Documentation" link is the User Guide. The other documents are missing.
